January 19, 2001 Engadine High School Gym
New
Name - Same Game!
Last year it was called "Cops
'n' Robbers"
On
January 19, 2001 the Engadine School gymnasium was full
of spectators attending the Second Annual "Cops and
Robbers" Basketball Game.
Another great evening of fun, entertainment and
educational demonstrations were had. This year, proceeds
brought in over $500.00 for the senior class trip. Senior's
"Robbers" participating in the basketball game
were Ben Lewis, Jason Heldt, Heidi Kerridge, David Brown,
Nick Albright, Beth Hins, Jordan Wilcoxen, D.C. Beckman,
Teresa Oven, Ryan Stachler and Jonel Hoogterp along with
Melissa Carrier, Nikki Garcia, Alexa King, Jessica Fether
and Michelle Brimmer who helped with the bake sale,
ticket booth and candy sale. A few other seniors, who
came to watch the game, ended up lending a helping hand,
which was greatly appreciated.
Eight Troopers and Officers from the Michigan State
Police, Bay Mills PD and MSP of Manistique along with one
Conservation Officer and coordinator Sergeant Randy
Graham from the Michigan State Police Post in Newberry
played a great game. Officials, Fred Bryant, Elmer
Albright and Art Butkovich along with Charlie Buckholz (a faithful score
keeper for all of the Engadine basketball games) were
greatly appreciated. Pastor Tim Miller of the Naubinway
Mennonite Church and Jerry Derusha were the "Keystone
Cops", when a player made a foul it was their job to
nab, place the hand cuffs on and send them into the crowd
to "make bail"! Although some tried to make the
great get-away, the "Keystone Cops" always got
their man (woman)!
In this second annual "Fuzz Buster" Basketball
game, the trophy went to the senior class, MVP went to
Jordan Wilcoxen, who received a $10.00 gift certificate
at Hilltop Sport and Bait and Jonel Hoogterp who received
a Trooper Teddy Bear.
